Mojams Events returns to Roots & Grooves in Colchester on Saturday 4th July with another night of underground music, bringing together resident and guest DJs, and a growing community of electronic music lovers.

Mojams was founded by Kerry Ramsay, better known to many on the local music scene as Kezza, alongside her son Tom and friend Jo. Together, they have built the Essex-based collective around a shared love of underground music. Since its first event at Roots & Grooves in November 2024, Mojams has continued to establish itself through small-scale, multi-genre nights with a firm focus on the music.

Kezza oversees everything from organising venues and bookings to the logistics that keep each event running smoothly. Away from the events, the three meet regularly to develop ideas, share the workload of creating content and keep Mojams active across its social media channels, particularly in the run-up to each event. Tom and Jo are also regular fixtures behind the decks.

Saturday’s line-up welcomes Jazzy B for her Mojams debut alongside Offshore, the trio of Freddy, Noah and Zach. RMBO also returns with his blend of minimal tech house and garage, while MojoP completes the bill with a deeper, techno-led sound.

Looking beyond the music, we asked Kezza whether creating welcoming and accessible events had always been part of the plan.

“Yes, it’s certainly something we have always strived for,” she said. “We’re a multi-generational team, and our experience has taught us that a mix on the dancefloor creates a really nice vibe.

“Another promoter I was talking to on Saturday, whose crowd is mostly older people, described his demographic as a ‘leaky bucket’. If you only cater to older partygoers, they eventually stop coming out.

“What we hope people take away from one of our events is an appreciation for some new music they perhaps haven’t heard before, and a sense of being welcomed into the Mojams family.”

There will be no guest list or free entry for Saturday’s event, with ticket sales supporting a profit-share model that helps ensure the DJs are paid for their performances.

Advance tickets are available in three tiers: first release £5.50, second release £6.50 and general admission £7.50. Capacity is limited, and advance booking is recommended.

Mojams: The Return takes place at Roots & Grooves on Saturday 4th July. The music starts at 7pm and carries on until late – or, in Kezza’s words, “until the dancefloor runs out of energy!”

Tickets are available now via Resident Advisor.
