Flight. Mode.

“The two most wonderful words,” according to writer and performer Paul Richards.

They’re also the starting point for Offgridland, his latest one-man comedy coming to Three Wise Monkeys as part of this year’s Colchester Fringe Summer Weekender.

The show follows a man who just wants to switch off from technology and, as Paul puts it, “other people”. But even with his mobile on flight mode, escaping the outside world proves harder than expected.

“It’s a high-energy show,” Paul said. “So feel free to sit back and watch a 45-year-old man who really should know better bust his guts off to entertain you!”

Based on a true story, Offgridland blends everyday frustrations with increasingly chaotic situations as its central character seeks a little peace and quiet.

Paul has spent more than 20 years writing comedy, with over 40 shows making their way to the Edinburgh Fringe. His one-man play, Harvey Greenfield is Running Late, transferred to London’s West End before being adapted into an award-winning feature film, while his work has also earned praise from The Scotsman, the BBC and audiences across the UK.

Offgridland will be performed at Three Wise Monkeys on Saturday 25th July and Sunday 26th July as part of the Colchester Fringe Summer Weekender.
