Live electronica: Surfies + John Callaghan + Nukleopatra + Don Quöng + The Maghreban

July 05, 2025

Mad live electronic music to “officially” open the square outside of Roots & Grooves Café in Colchester*! Free entry, with doors opening at around 7:30pm…

Surfies is a mysterious musical collective, reportedly based in Kansas, USA, whose Dadaist electronic songs have disrupted the minds of late-night Adult Swim viewers since 2022. This is their first ever UK show.

John Callaghan is an unusual songwriter/performer of thoughtful and spiky electronica from Birmingham. His 1998 single for Warp Records, ‘I’m Not Comfortable Inside My Mind’, is reportedly the cheapest video ever shown by MTV.

Nukleopatra has been producing and performing electronic music since late 2024, combining sampling with original songwriting to craft techno-pessimist electro pop on the fossil fuel industry, the exploitation of workers producing tech commodities, the performance of gender on social media, and more.
